The pattern made of fabric is long-lasting so it can be used again and again. It's not necessary to cut the seems if you still want to wear the original garment, but then the duplication is more difficult.
This jersey-dress is made of poor quality jersey and looks very worn-out. I will use it as pattern to make a new dress of Marimekko tricot fabric.
A tip: If you find an inexpensive fitting but worn-out garment at a flea market, you can buy it and use it as pattern.
